3 It’s worth noting that Monteverdi’s music room, a hexagonal space watched over by frescoes of musical angels, still exists. It’s an area currently closed to the public and under reconstruction, both to preserve it and to help people try to imagine how it might have looked and sounded before a giant bricked-off staircase was built through it in the eighteenth century, potentially ruling it out as a place enjoyed by Vivaldi.
